2026 Native Plant Sale – Now OPEN!


The Steuben County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is hosting a native plant kit sale this spring! Five native plant kits will be offered that feature native plugs of the Great Lakes region.  Available kits include the Basic Garden Kit, Monarch Garden Kit, Prairie Grass Kit, Rain Garden Kit, and Shade Garden Kit. 


New This Year – District Supported Pricing!

Kit cost is $150.00 – $60.00 paid by the Steuben County SWCD

District cost-share funding allows discounted pricing for the first 20 kits sold. Once funding is exhausted, kits will return to full price.


Each kit contains 50 plants, when planted 18” on-center, they will cover approximately 100 square feet.  Please note, some species substitutions may be required based on availability.  No custom requests are available. 


The Basic Prairie Garden Kit features a selection of core native species that are deer resistant and fundamental to a native plant garden. The kit includes several key pollinator species which prefer well drained, dry to mesic soil, and grow well in full/part sun.

The Monarch Garden Kit features native flowers, including 3 varieties of milkweed, which provide food and nectar sources for Monarch butterflies to thrive. The included plants prefer sun/part-sun and will grow well in mesic soils.

This Prairie Grass Kit contains a mix of deeply rooted grasses and sedges. These species are low-maintenance, will thrive in full-sun, and prefer medium/dry soil.

Our Rain Garden Kit contains a diverse mix of plants that are suited to short-term flooding and temporary drought conditions. The selected plants will soak up additional rainwater and create a colorful sanctuary for birds and butterflies, they prefer sun/part shade.

The Shade Garden Kit contains a mix of shade loving wildflowers, sedges, and grasses for season-long interest. The mix of plants will perform well in shade/part-shade and prefer medium soil.

Orders will be available for pickup at the Steuben County SWCD office in early June at the Steuben County SWCD office on a day to be determined. 

Orders and payment for the native plant kits are due to the Steuben County SWCD (CASH or CHECK ONLY) by March 25, 2026.
