Just announced: The Steuben County Soil and Water Conservation District, in cooperation with several very gracious Steuben County landowners, has established a Self-Guided Conservation Practice Tour that travels throughout the County. There are 10 stops on the tour, from pollinator and tree plantings to no-till farming systems and a constructed wetland. The tour, which takes approximately 2 hours to complete and is about 78 miles in length, will be open from June 20 to August 15, 2022. A tour map can be picked up at the Steuben SWCD office or downloaded here. Driving directions and tour stop information can be downloaded here. Here is the link to an interactive map. Whether individuals want to learn more about conservation practices or just want to see places in the county not yet explored, this tour is for everyone!
When you have completed the tour, bring pictures of the signage from all ten sites (cell phone photos) to the Steuben County SWCD office to claim a free hat (while supplies last) during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 1220 N. 200 W., Suite L, in Angola). Please call ahead at (260) 665-3211 ext. 3, before making a special trip because there are times that staff are not available. Tour finishers who show us their photographs will also be entered into a grand prize drawing for a gift card, which will be awarded when the tour closes.
