The Steuben County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) would like to extend an invitation to the public to attend their 2023 Annual Meeting. The meeting, which will celebrate the SWCD’s 75th Anniversary, will be held on Wednesday evening, March 8, at Club Z in the MTI Center on the beautiful Trine University campus, located at 1215 Thunder Drive, Angola, IN.
A free evening buffet-style dinner, prepared by Bon Appetit, will be available beginning at 6:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., our guest speaker will deliver the keynote presentation. Bob Barr, Research Scientist at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, will discuss managing Indiana rivers and streams in a changing climate. Mr. Barr’s presentation will be followed by a report on SWCD activities and finances for 2022,an election for one SWCD Board Member, and recognition of the 2022 River Friendly Farmers.
In the election, incumbent Charles “Chuck” W. Howard is running for his fourth term on the Steuben County SWCD Board of Supervisors. Chuck, serving as a Board Supervisor since 2014, is the current Vice Chair. Chuck has resided and raised corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay in Steuben and DeKalb Counties for over 50 years. Some of the conservation practices he has implemented on acreage he farms include conservation tillage, cover crops, grassed waterways, and wildlife/pollinator plantings.
